Springfield, Mass. – February 3, 2024 – The Springfield College wrestling team fell to both ninth-ranked Castleton, 47-0, and seventh-ranked Johnson & Wales, 30-10, on Saturday afternoon in a tri-meet held inside the Springfield Field House.
Springfield fell to 12-7 overall in dual meets this year after today's results. The Pride will return to the mat on Saturday, February 10 with a dual meet at WPI beginning at noon.
Castleton won all ten bouts against Springfield, which included four pins, a pair of technical falls, a major decision and three wins by decision. Gavin Bradley stormed out of the gate with a pin for the Spartans in just 30 seconds to open the dual at 125 pounds. Springfield sophomore

Oliver Parker (Pawtucket, R.I.) fought hard at 141 and 174, respectively, but both were ultimately clipped by scores of 7-3 and 4-2. Castleton ended the dual the way it began as after 6:30 at 285 pounds Abbas Abdulrahman pinned sophomore

Junior
Luke Temple (Jackson, N.J.) earned Springfield's first bout win of the day as he opened the dual with Johnson & Wales with a 13-7 decision at 149 over Zachary Weiner. Johnson & Wales won the next four bouts including back-to-back pins at 165 and 174, respectively for a 19-3 advantage in the dual. Sophomore
Casey Allen (Park Ridge, N.J.) cut JWU's run when he defeated Louis Paradiso, 5-2, by decision at 197. At 133, top of the nation's top wrestlers went head-to-head in a preview of perhaps a meeting at NCAA regionals but it was No. 2 ranked Joziah Fry, who topped No. 12
Gianni Manginelli (Dumont, N.J.) by technical fall, 20-5. Kozdra capped the dual for Springfield with a win by major decision over Nicholas Desola at 141, 12-4.
