Colorado Springs, Colo. - March 22, 2024 - The Springfield College men's gymnastics team finished fourth at the USA Gymnastics Men's Collegiate National Championships on Friday afternoon at Air Force. Springfield registered a team score 388.350 points on the day, while host Air Force won the event with a 401.650. Navy took second with a 398.250, Greenville placed third with a 390.750, while William & Mary tallied a 381.350, and Simpson recorded a 358.850.
The two-day event kicked off on Friday and featured the team and all-around competition. The top eight scorers on each event, with a maximum of two athletes per program competing on each, will move onto individual apparatus finals on Saturday.
For the second-straight year, Springfield had the national runner-up in the all-around competition as
Sam Kaplan (Fairhaven, Mass.) finished second with a 77.550 to garner All-American honors.
Starting off the day on the floor exercise,
Dominic Ramalho (Hollis, N.H.) had the Pride's top score with a 13.400, while
Timothy Templeton (Maynard, Mass.) added a 13.250.
Peyton Cramer (Grapevine, Texas) hit for a 13.900 to take fourth on the pommel horse and
Jaden Laubstein (Oakland, Calif.) produced a 13.300 for a ninth-place finish.
Will Wilson (Montgomery, Ala.) earned a
13.300 to take second on the rings and
David Handron (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was credited with a 12.850 for a top-ten finish of his own. On the vault,
Wilson earned a
13.750, while teammate
Tyler Beekman (Bedford, N.H.) closely followed with his 13.650. Kaplan then tied for fourth on the parallel bars with his mark of 13.650 and Beekman scored a 12.700, while on the horizontal bar,
Owen Carney (Sterling, Mass.) posted the second-highest score of the competition with a 14.050 and Kaplan and Laubstein scored 12.800's.
