Springfield, Mass. - April 6, 2024 - The Springfield College men's gymnastics team produced another tremendous performance at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Men's Gymnastics Championships on Saturday, scoring a 392.050 to finish third.
Navy won the championship with a 401.450, followed by Greenville's mark of 393.000. After the Pride's mark of 392.050, Army scored a 390.900, William & Mary produced a 387.800, and Simpson tallied a 360.950.
There was plenty of individual recognition following the meet as Sam Kaplan (Fairhaven, Mass.) was selected as the ECAC Men's Gymnast of the Year, Peyton Cramer (Grapevine, Texas) was chosen as the ECAC Rookie of the Year and the ECAC Specialist of the Year, Matt Davis was chosen as the ECAC Coach of the Year, and assistant coaches Norm Boulerice, Christian Wilkey Jr., and Dante Cecil were tabbed the ECAC Men's Gymnastics Co-Assistant Coaching Staff of the Year.
Cramer delivered a historic performance on the pommel horse, winning the event with a 14.800 and becoming the 17th Springfield College men's gymnastics student-athlete dating back to 1932 to win an individual ECAC title. In fact, he is just the third student-athlete to ever win the pommel horse title, and first since Pat Ryther won in 2015. Gia Mantia (Aurora, Ill.) added a 12.400 and Kaplan scored a 12.300 on the event.
Competing in the all-around for the first time this season, Dominic Ramalho (Hollis, N.H.) took third with a 76.200 while Kaplan was fourth with a 75.300.
The Pride started the day on the parallel bars, with Kaplan leading the way with a fourth-place score 13.600 and Tyler Beekman (Bedford, N.H.) and Carter Cochardo (Cicero, N.Y.) each added 13.300's. Owen Carney (Sterling, Mass.) had Springfield's top on the horizontal bar with a fifth-place score 13.200, while Felix Kriedemann (Strasslach, Germany) was credited with a 12.900 and Kaplan produced a 12.550.
On the floor exercise, Ramalho scored a team-best 13.650, Evan Reichert (Oswego, Ill.) added a 13.350, and Timothy Templeton (Maynard, Mass.) tacked on a 13.300. The Pride had a pair of top six finishers on the rings as David Handron (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Will Wilson (Montgomery, Ala.) finished fifth and sixth with marks of 13.150 and 13.100. Cramer also tied for seventh on the apparatus with his 13.050.
Ending the day on the vault, Ramalho and Carney tied for fourth with scores of 14.450 and Wilson and Reichert registered 14.100's.
Springfield will now await to find out its postseason fate and if it has qualified for the NCAA National Collegiate Championships on April 19-20 at The Ohio State University.
