Cambridge, Mass. – September 29, 2024 – The Springfield College men's tennis team competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Northeast Regional Championships this weekend on the campus of MIT.
In opening round of the main singles draw,
Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) fell to Ed Opie of Amherst, 6-0, 6-0, while
Tatsuya Kimoto (Yamaguchi, Japan) was edged by Brady Anderson of Babson, 7-6, 6-1. Both Opie and Anderson were seeded 9-16 in the singles bracket.
In the opening round of the main doubles draw, Kimoto and
Marc Villanueva Abad (Barcelona, Mexico) dropped their match to Albert Hu and Ethan Ohm of Amherst, 8-5.
In the singles "B" draw,
Angelo Guzman (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) fell to Diego Sosa of Colby, 8-4, while Abad was clipped by Ben Adey of Bates, 8-6, both in the round of 64.
The Pride will host the Springfield Invitational on Saturday, October 5 at 9:00 am on the Appleton Tennis Courts.
