West Point, N.Y. – January 11, 2025 – The Springfield College men's gymnastics team opened the 2025 campaign this weekend at the West Point Open and finished sixth overall against some of the top competition in the country.
Ohio State University won the team title with 315.800 points and was followed by Penn State University with 312.750 points, Navy with 309.500 points, Army with 308.300 points, William & Mary with 300.450 points and Springfield with 300.050 points.
Junior
Owen Carney (Sterling, Mass.) highlighted the efforts for Springfield this weekend as he qualified for individual finals in three different events after winning the high bar with a score of 13.400, placing second on the floor with a score of 13.650 and placing seventh on the vault with a duplicate score of 13.650.
Carney went on to place fifth on both the floor with a score of 13.050 and high bar with a score of 12.750 as well as sixth on the floor with a score of 13.050 in Saturday's individual finals.
First-year
Devon Felsenstein (Blue Bell, Pa.) also qualified for individual finals in the still rings after placing ninth on Friday with a score of 12.800, while sophomore transfer
Blaise Rousseau (Brecksville, Ohio) qualified for individual finals in the pommel horse after taking ninth on Friday with a score of 13.150.
Felsenstein and Rousseau went on to place third on the pommel horse and the rings, respectively, in Saturday's individual finals. Felsenstein tallied a score of 13.300 on the pommel horse, while Rousseau notched a 13.050 on the rings.
In his collegiate debut,
Kaleb Palacio (Barcliff, Texas) placed seventh in the All-Around with a total score of 73.100. His best individual events came as scores of 12.900 on both the pommel horse and the vault. He also took 15th place on the floor with a score of 12.850.
Carter Cochardo (Cicero, N.Y.) produced Springfield's best score on the parallel bars on Friday with a mark of 12.700.
Springfield will travel to Maryland for the Navy Open next Saturday at 2:00 pm.
