Williamsport, Pa. – January 11, 2025 – The Springfield College wrestling team produced its sixth top-4 finish in program history at the Budd Whitehill National Duals this weekend despite falling to No. 9 Roanoke and No. 19 Ithaca this afternoon.

Springfield finished the tournament with a 3-2 record and took fourth for the second time in program history. The other top-4 placements came as runner-up finishes in the event. For his efforts all weekend, Myles Leonard (Waldwick, N.J.) was named to the All-Tournament team at 184 as he registered four pins and a decision in his five matchups.

The No. 9 ranked Maroons raced out to a 24-0 advantage before Nick Rogers (Watertown, N.Y.) got Springfield on the board with a 4-2 decision at 174. Leonard then earned his fourth pin of the weekend over Hunter Moore at 184 before Ben Katz (Medford, N.Y.) posted a 5-3 decision at 285 to account for the 26-12 final. This was just the second meeting between Springfield and Roanoke.

Jack Callahan (Tewksbury, Mass.) pinned Tomah Gummow at 125 to open the third place dual between the Pride and the Bombers. Ithaca answered with 18 straight points with wins at 133, 141, 149 and 157 before Jacob Deguire (Schenectady, N.Y.) pinned Akio Sanders in under a minute at 165 cutting Springfield's deficit to six, 18-12. The teams traded the final four matchups with Leonard and Katz earning points for the Pride. Leonard earned a 12-8 decision over Xavier Pommells at 184 and Katz pinned Charlie Turner in 2:45 at 285 for the 29-21 final as Springfield took fourth place at the meet.

Katz finished his weekend with an unblemished 5-0 record at 285 for Springfield which featured three pins, a major decision and a decision. Leonard also went 5-0, while Callahan went 4-1 at 125 for the Pride.

Springfield will travel to Norwich University for a dual on January 18 at 12:00 pm.
