Providence, R.I. – January 25, 2025 – Doug Clark (Saugus, Mass.) finished in third place at 285 pounds to highlight action for the Springfield College wrestling team at the Wildcat Open hosted by Johnson & Wales University.
After going 1-1 in the main bracket, Clark fought his way through the consolation bracket with four straight victories to finish in third place. Four of Clark's five wins on the day came as decisions with the final one coming as a 9-6 final over Kaz Morosetti in the third place bout.
Springfield had five other student-athletes pick up two wins at the Wildcat Open.
Oliver Parker (Pawtucket, R.I.) earned two wins in the main draw at 197 both which came as pins as he put Connor Byers of Norwich and Luke Murphy of Plymouth State on their backs in under two minutes.
At 165, both
Matt Hoxie (Nassau, N.Y.) and
Nate Spuhler (Shoreham, N.Y.) earned one win in the main bracket and the consolation bracket. Hoxie pinned David Ras of Roger Williams in 4:17, while Spuhler pinned Hunter Logan of Bridgewater State in 1:43.
Kevin Sevigny (Wallingford, Conn.) bounced back with an opening round loss with back-to-back pins over Hagen Chase and Vinny Keeler of Southern Maine at 133, while
Hunter Sanchez (Lebanon, Conn.) bounced back from an opening round loss at 125 with a third period pin over Ryan Vanguilder of Castleton.
Springfield will wrap up its trip to Rhode Island with the NEWA Dual Meet Championships tomorrow beginning at 9:30. Springfield is the fourth seed and will take on 13 seeded Norwich University in the opening round.
