Men's Soccer Secures Postseason Berth With 1-0 NEWMAC Shutout Over Coast Guard

Springfield, Mass. – October 29, 2025 – A second half goal from junior Connor Policarpio (Bristol, Conn.) lifted the Springfield College men's soccer team over Coast Guard, 1-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Wednesday evening on Brock-Affleck Field. With the win, Springfield secured a berth in the 2025 NEWMAC Championship Tournament with seeding set to be finalized following Saturday's contests.

Springfield, which picked up its seventh win of the fall improved to 7-8-1 overall and to 3-3-1 in NEWMAC play, while Coast Guard dropped to 7-5-5, 3-1-3 and suffered its first conference loss of the season. Springfield also now has the most victories since the 2021 campaign and the third most since Tommy Crabill took over the program in 2018.

Noah Pote (Washington, Conn.) made six saves in net for Springfield and picked up his first clean sheet of the season in what may have been the most important game of the year for the Pride.

As a team, Coast Guard out shot 20-9 including 6-3 on goal and held a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks, but it was Springfield which came out with the 1-0 victory.

With less than 20 minutes remaining in regulation Arya Kouzehkanani (South Hadley, Mass.) played a one touch pass to Policarpio just outside the box. Policarpio lifted the ball into the upper right corner of the net giving Springfield the 1-0 advantage.

Coast Guard looked for the equalizer, but Pote came away with a save in the 87th minute to preserve the shutout. The Bears were awarded a free kick from the left corner of the box, but the ball was cleared and time expired securing the NEWMAC shutout for Springfield.

Springfield will travel to No. 8 nationally-ranked Wheaton College to wrap up the regular season on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
