Springfield, Mass. – October 29, 2025 - Springfield College Director of Athletics, Dr.
Craig Poisson, is pleased to announce the addition of William Hughes as a full time Assistant Coach with the Springfield College wrestling program.
"I'm excited to join Springfield College Wrestling and contribute to its prestigious and winning tradition," said Hughes.
Hughes comes to Alden Street with an impressive background as a nationally recognized NCAA Division III wrestler, academic standout, and emerging leader in the wrestling community.
A 2023 graduate of Johnson & Wales University (Rhode Island), Hughes earned his Bachelor of Science in Health Science while competing as a four-year member of the Wildcats' wrestling team.
During his collegiate career, Hughes achieved national rankings, was named NEWA All-Region, and earned distinction as a three-time Academic All-American and three-time NEWA All-Academic Team selection. He was also selected to attend the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum, where he honed his leadership and mentorship skills among peers from across the country.
"We are very excited to welcome Will to the Springfield College wrestling program," said head coach
Jason Holder. "Will was highly recommended and adds a wealth of wrestling knowledge to the room, works very well with our young men, and I'm confident he's going to have a significant impact on the team's success."
Before joining Springfield College, Hughes gained valuable coaching experience at multiple levels of competition. His resume includes serving as an assistant coach at St. Sebastian's School in Needham, Mass., as a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater, Johnson & Wales, and taking on coaching positions with both the Iron Faith Wrestling Club and the Coventry Renegades Wrestling Club.
"Will's background as both a Division III student-athlete and an aspiring coach will strengthen our wrestling program," said Poisson. "His support on Coach Holder's staff will be critical for the continued success of our student-athletes both in the classroom and in the wrestling room as their season gets underway."
Springfield wrestling opens its 2025-26 campaign on Saturday with a tri-meet against New England College and Norwich University in Henniker, New Hampshire at noon.
