Dylan Mulvaney ’26 Applies Classroom Knowledge to Strength & Conditioning Internship at Boston University

Springfield, Mass. – October 30, 2025 – Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.), an exercise science major and senior on the Springfield College men's volleyball team recently completed an internship at Boston University with the department of strength and conditioning.

What does a typical day look like for you in this role?

A typical day for me is waking up around 4:45 am , arriving at the facility around 5:45 am , coaching from 6-11am, usually swimming and diving, track and field, softball, basketball, and many other teams. After this, I'll eat breakfast and then workout at the facility at Boston University. After my workout, I go out to the field to warm up women's lacrosse before their practice, and finish the day off with some discussions, readings and lessons from the staff over lunch!

Is there a specific project or task from your experience that you're especially proud of?

I'm really proud of a student-athlete that I have been working with for a while from the men's basketball team. He had surgery on a torn labrum and has been working with me to get back preparing him to get healthy and get strong and ready for the upcoming season. He was just recently cleared for full contact and participation, and I'm excited to see his progress unfold on the court this year.

How has this internship influenced your future goals or career path?

This experience has been amazing and I've already learned so many valuable lessons for my future, such as how to command a room, what it means to connect with athletes, the ability to work with a team and countless other aspects of working in a setting with athletes.

What advice would you give to a student interested in pursuing a similar internship?

The best piece of advice I can give to a student seeking a similar internship would be to put yourself out there because the worst someone can tell you is no. Continue to network and try to build connection with coaches as best you can, because you never know who will end up where and what connection might get you a job.
