Grantham, Pa. – December 6, 2025 – Behind first place finishes from both
Isaac Quiles (East Hartford, Conn.) at 141 pounds and
Ben Katz (Medford, N.Y.) at 285 pounds, the Springfield College wrestling team finished fourth overall at the 2025 Petrofes Invitational on the campus of Messiah University this weekend.
As a team, Springfield produced a team score of 140.5 points. Messiah won the meet with 172 points and was followed by NYU (158 points), Gettysburg (142 points) and Springfield in the standings, while Alvernia rounded out the top five with 126 points.
Quiles was seeded second at 141 used back-to-back first period pins over Kenneth Thomas of Adrian and Sean Rinebolt of Shenandoah to reach the semifinal round. Quiles than defeated Malcolm Chrispin of Bridgewater State by decision, 8-7, and teammate
Ryan Kozdra (Mahwah, N.J.) by decision, 14-8, to win the 141 title. Quiles entered the tournament ranked sixth in the region, while Rinebolt was fourth in his region.
Kozdra ended up meeting Quiles in the final at 141 following a 17-0 technical fall over Malik Barkor of Arcadia, a 13-9 decision over Jacob Cunningham of Messiah and an 8-2 decision over Adrew Loniewski of Muhlenberg, the top-seed and the No. 10 nationally-ranked wrestler at 141.
As the top seed at 285, Katz opened the meet with a first period pin as he defeated Bruce Clark of Bridgewater State. He then advanced to the championship match with a pair of 4-1 decisions over Scott Smith of Adrian and Nate Faxon of NYU. In the final, Katz ended his meet pinning Owen Reber of Alverna in 1:21. Katz sits third in the region, while Faxon is ranked sixth in his region.
Matthew Hoxie (Nassau, N.Y.) and
Oliver Parker (Pawtucket, R.I.) earned runner-up finishes at 184 and 197, respectively. Hoxie defeated Aramis Reyes of Bridgewater State by technical fall, 17-1, Omori Lee of Greensboro by decision and then advanced to the final following his bout with top-seeded Austin Brass of Messiah, who got hurt in the third period. Brass entered the meet as the ninth ranked wrestler in Division III at 184.
Parker, the top-seed at 197, pinned his way to the final with wins over Daniel Basil-Barker of Shenandoah (2:01), Aidan Murray of Arcadia (4:30) and Phil Nave of Gettysburg (4:54).
At 133,
Esuar Ordonez (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) fought his way through the bracket and ultimately finished fourth in his weight class. Ordonez pinned Danny Hopkins of Gettysburg in 4:46 and earned a 7-2 decision over AJ Orlando of Averett to reach the semifinal round before falling 2-0. He bounced back with a 6-0 decision over Cole Anderson of King's College (Pa.) to earn a spot in the third place match.
Ty Stewart (Dracut, Mass.) and
Gabriel Thomasson (Norton, Mass.) rounded out the highlights today with seventh place finishes at 149 and 165, respectively.
Springfield will return to Alden Street for a mat light dual with Roger Williams University on Friday at 7:00 pm.
