Norton, Mass. – February 1, 2025 – The Springfield College women's track and field team competed at both the Wheaton College Invitational and the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic.
At the Terrier Classic on Friday night, Springfield sent five student-athletes to run.
Maddie Shea (Amherst, Mass.) recorded a time of 10:17.37 in the 3,000-meter run, while
Elina Olmedo (Wakefield, Mass.) and
Leah Castle (Ashford, Conn.) posted times of 2:25.20 and 2:30.29, respectively, in the 800-meter run.
Kristina Kyle (Watertown, Conn.) and
Kami Wlodyka (Three Rivers, Mass.) competed in both the 1,500-meter run and the mile. Kyle ran a 1,500 of 4:50.27 and a mile time of 5:11.34, while Wlodyka posted a 1,500 time of 5:08.61 and a mile time of 5:31.40.
Then on Saturday, Springfield sent select student-athletes to the Wheaton Invitational where the Pride earned a pair of first place finishes and four runner-up finishes to take second overall as a team with 86 points. Springfield was the top-finishing Division III program and finished only behind Division I Bryant (116 points) at the meet.
Springfield's individual winners included
Katelynn Taylor (Franklin, Mass.) in the shot put with a best throw of 12.42-meters and
Jillian Scott (Westhampton, Mass.) in the pole vault as she cleared 3.35-meters. Taylor also finished fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 13.79-meters.
Autumn Bacik (Watertown, Conn.) posted a runner-up finish in the high jump clearing 1.56-meters and a sixth place finish in the long jump with a best leap of 4.67-meters, while
Ella Smith (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) took second in the pole vault clearing 3.10-meters.
On the track,
Natalia Marchand (Hubbardston, Mass.), Madison Mulas (Wilmington, Mass.), Maeve D'Arcy (West Hartford, Conn.) and
Julia Brillo (Ludlow, Mass.) combined for a 4:16.18 in the 4x400-meter relay. Brillo went on to finish second in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.60.
Taylor Gibson (Billerica, Mass.) registered a second place finish in the 1000-meter run in 3:17.84,
Meghan Sullivan (Easthampton, Mass.) took fourth in the mile in 5:50.05,
Katherine DeFosse (Worcester, Mass.)took fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.34 and
Ella Couchon (Windsor Locks, Conn.) took sixth in the 200-meter dash in 28.17.
Springfield will once again compete at two meets on February 15 as the Pride will head to Boston University for the David Emery Valentine Invitational and to Tufts for the Jumbo Invitational.
