Worcester, Mass. – February 21, 2025 – The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team produced three podium finishes on the second day of the 2025 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships held at WPI.
Through two days, Springfield sits in second place with 278 only behind MIT, which has 615 points midway through the meet. Right behind the Pride is Wheaton College in third with 266 points.
Springfield began the day with a runner-up finish in the 200-free relay as the quartet of
Kay Shen (Hong Kong),
Natalie Chamberlin (Ellington, Conn.),
Erin Kelaher (Tucson, Ariz.) and
Nina Lamb (Killingworth, Conn.) recorded a time of 1:35.58 shaving 0.38-seconds off their swim from this morning's preliminary session.
Springfield had four student-athletes of the ten finalists in the 1-meter dive as
Annabel Culbreth-Loomis (Pelham, Mass.) charged from a seventh place finish during prelims to make the podium for a bronze medal with a 430.80 tonight.
Elizabeth Santos (Chicopee, Mass.) finished sixth with a 420.10,
McKenzie Aparo (Bristol, Conn.) earned her spot in next week's NCAA diving regional with a 395.00 and
Bridgette Hogan (Marshfield, Mass.) rounded out the group with a 360.05. All four divers will move onto regionals next weekend, which will take place in their home pool beginning on Friday.
The 400-medley relay of
Maddie Symecko (Plantsville, Conn.), Lamb,
Korryn Cartwright (Seekonk, Mass.) and Shen rounded out the spotlights for Springfield tonight as they recorded a podium finish for a bronze medal with a time of 3:54.14.
Emma Savoie (Milford, Conn.) paced the Pride in the 500-free as she clocked a 5:19:57 for tenth place in the event.
Kylie Nordenstrom (Blaine, Minn.) joined Savoie in the event as she finished 19th overall in 5:26.03.
Despite being DQ'd in the championship finals of tonight's 200-IM, Lamb represented the Pride a registered a time of 2:09.14 in this morning's heat dropping over four seconds off her seed time coming into the meet.
Springfield had two student-athletes compete in the championship finals of the 50-free tonight as Chamberlin clocked a 24.00 flat for sixth, while Shen posted a 24.07 for seventh.
Springfield will return to the pool tomorrow morning for day three of the 2025 NEWMAC Championships and will compete in the 400-IM, 100-fly, 200-free, 100-breast, 100-back and 200-medley relay. Prelims begin at 10:00 am from Worcester.
