Springfield, Mass. – February 23, 2025 – Kevin Sevigny (Wallingford, Conn.) and
Doug Clark (Lynn, Mass.) placed in their respective brackets for the Springfield College wrestling team at the 2025 NEWA Futures Tournament. As a team, Springfield recorded a score of 56 points for seventh in the field of 16 teams.
As the number two seed, Sevigny rolled through the 133 bracket as he pinned his way to the semifinals before falling to Jake Bennett of Coast Guard by decision, 8-2. He bounced back in the third place match with a major decision win, 11-3, over Johan Aguilar of Johnson & Wales.
In the 285 bracket, Clark earned a 7-6 decision over Jake Edwards of Wesleyan in the round of 16 before falling in the quarterfinal round. In the consolation bracket, Clark used back-to-back pins to reach the fifth place match where he ultimately defeated Owen Bufagna of Southern Maine by decision.
After falling in his first match,
Kayo Torres (Sandwich, Mass.) won three straight matchups in the back draw highlighted by a technical fall, 18-2, over
Jeremiah Cruz (Springfield, Mass.) and a major decision, 18-7, over Jackson Morgan of Southern Maine before bowing out.
Springfield will now prepare for the NCAA Regional Championships slated for next weekend at Wesleyan.
