Wrestling Finishes Sixth at Regional Championships as Deguire and Rogers Punch Tickets to NCAA's

Middletown, Conn. – March 2, 2025 – The Springfield College wrestling team finished sixth overall at the 2025 NCAA Division III Regional Championships and saw two student-athletes qualify for the NCAA National Championship meet.

As a team, the Pride finished sixth among the 18-team field with 66.5 points and had five student-athletes earn All-Region accolades. Leading the way for the Pride was Jacob Deguire (Schenectady, N.Y.) and Nick Rogers (Watertown, Conn.), who each earned a spot in the upcoming NCAA Division III National Championships, which will be held March 14-15 at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, R.I.

Deguire was the sixth seed at 165 and opened with a pin in just 27-seconds over Seth Richardson of Utica before three seconds of riding time gave the senior a triple overtime win over Fisher Stites of Williams to reach the semifinal round where he fell to top-seed Jack Richardson of Johnson & Wales, who ranks fourth in the nation at 165, 5-2, in sudden victory. Deguire was forced to the wrestle back where he pinned Landon Kearns of Coast Guard in the second period before edging out Chase Anestis of Plymouth State in the third place match securing a trip back to the national championships.

Rogers was the sixth seed and finished as the regional runner-up at 174 pounds as he rolled through Michael Hopkins of Bridgewater State (Dec, 3-1), Jayden Curley of Roger Williams (MD, 12-4) and Connor Gregory (Dec, 5-4) to reach the championship match. His victory over Gregory, the 13th ranked 174 wrestler in the nation and No. 2 seed in the bracket, sealed Rogers bid to the national championships.

Ben Katz (Medford, N.Y.) made his way onto the podium at 285 pounds as he finished fourth in the bracket as the fifth seed. Katz reached the third place match after using a pin over Emre Sensoy of Trinity in the consolation semifinals, but fell to 15th ranked Adolfo Betancur in the third place match ending season.

Luke Temple (Jackson, N.J.), at 149, and Oliver Parker (Pawtucket, R.I.), at 197, reached the seventh place matches in their respective brackets. Temple picked up a trio of wins including a 6-0 decision over James Linder of Western New England to finish seventh overall, while Parker bounced back for a pair of wins this morning before being pinned in his final match of the day to finish eighth overall.

Deguire and Rogers will await the bracket release from the NCAA and then travel to Providence for the national championships on March 14.
