Box Score Springfield, Mass. – March 29, 2025 – The Springfield College women's tennis team opened New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play with a 7-0 setback to 24th ranked Wellesley College on Saturday afternoon at the Appleton Tennis Courts.
Wellesley improved to 10-1 overall and to 3-0 in NEWMAC play, while Springfield dipped to 4-3, 0-1.
The Blue earned the point in doubles action in three tight matches.
Gabby Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass.) and
Alysa Elliott (Gros-Islet, Saint Lucia) earned a win over Lily Cade and Kriti Sarav at No. 2, but Wellesley squeaked out two 6-4 decisions at No. 1 and No. 3 to finish off doubles play taking a 1-0 lead into singles action.
Wellesley won all six singles points in straight sets. Heaney-Secord fought hard in her singles match at the No. 2, coming up just short, 6-4, 7-6.
Kapom Vettayawaikoon (Phuket, Thailand) also played a tight match as the No. 1 against Suzanne Xu before ultimately falling 7-5, 7-6.
Up next, the Pride will travel to Salve Regina on Sunday for another NEWMAC tilt beginning at noon.
