Box Score Danbury, Conn. – April 1, 2025 – The Springfield College men's tennis team picked up a 7-0 non-conference win at Western Connecticut State University on Tuesday afternoon as the Pride earned its third straight shutout victory and sixth 7-0 decision of the 2024-25 campaign.
Springfield improved to 9-1 overall, while Western Connecticut fell to 1-6.
Springfield earned the point in doubles action after taking victories in all three matchups.
Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) and
Zach Taub (New Windsor, N.Y.) took a decisive 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Tim Norin (Stockholm, Sweden) and
Marten Schalin (Taby, Sweden) posted a 6-2 win at No. 3, while
Micah Matsudaira (Cornwall Bridge, Conn.) and
Marc Villanueva Abad (Barcelona, Mexico)pulled out a 7-5 win at No. 1.
Springfield went on to earn wins at all six singles positions in straight sets.
Tatsuya Kimoto (Yamaguchi, Japan) earned an easy 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 and was followed by Thongbooncharoen with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2. Norin earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3, Schalin won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4,
Akito Shimamura (Hirono Futaba, Japan) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 and Matsudaira finished off with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 6.
Springfield will travel to No. 21 MIT for a NEWMAC clash tomorrow at 4:00 pm.
