Springfield, Mass. – April 14, 2025 – The Springfield College men's volleyball team has earned an at-large berth and will appear in its 12th NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championship Tournament, which will begin this upcoming weekend.
Springfield College, which was ranked third in the latest AVCA Division III National Poll, will hit the road for an opening weekend pod, with the Pride taking on the University of Mount Union in Kenosha, Wisconsin, while host and sixth ranked Carthage College, will take on Aurora University on Friday, April 18. The winner of those two matches will play on Saturday, April 19, with the winner earning a spot in the national semifinals. The national semifinals will take place at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia.
The Pride earned one of five Pool C at-large berths into the field of 19 teams and enters the championship this weekend with a record of 22-4 (22-2 against Division III opponents). On the same side of the bracket, top-ranked NYU will await the winner of Buffalo State and Baruch, while Cal Lutheran will play Vassar. In the bottom half of the bracket, second-ranked Southern Virginia will host a pod with St. Joseph's Long Island, Thiel, Messiah and Lancaster Bible, while fourth-ranked Stevens will host a pod with Randolph-Macon, Nichols, Juniata and Wentworth.
Friday's match will be the first in program history between the Pride and the Purple Raiders. Springfield has also never faced Aurora University. Springfield and Carthage have met five times including four times in the NCAA Tournament as the Pride hold a 4-1 record in those meetings. Springfield defeated Carthage 3-0 in the 2010 NCAA Semifinals (at Carthage), 3-0 in the 2012 NCAA Championship Game (at Springfield), 3-0 in the 2014 NCAA Semifinals (at Juniata) and fell to Carthage in the 2022 NCAA Championship Game, 3-1 (at Carthage).
As a team, Springfield won three-straight NCAA Division III National Championships after sweeping Carthage in 2012, Nazareth in 2013, Juniata in 2014, before downing New Paltz in 2017 and Stevens in 2018 to secure the championship and has totaled 11 Division III National Championships in program history. The Pride was also the national runner-up in 2015, 2016, and 2022.
Springfield as a team ranks second in the nation in hitting percentage (.356), second in aces per set (2.85) and 19th in kills per set (12.19). Individually,
Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) ranks fifth in the country in assists per set (10.19), while
Chris Rouleau (Bay Shore, N.Y.) ranks fifth in the country in hitting percentage (.485).
