Springfield, Mass. – April 19, 2025 – The Springfield College men's tennis team fell to No. 11 ranked Babson College, 5-2, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday afternoon at the Appleton Tennis Courts.
Babson improved to 16-2 overall and finished the season a perfect 7-0 in NEWMAC play, while Springfield dropped to 13-3, 5-2. Babson earned the outright NEWMAC regular season title and will be the top seed in next week's conference tournament, while Springfield secured the third seed and will travel to MIT for the NEWMAC semifinals next weekend.
The conference office will release the entirety of the championship bracket and seedings once regular season play is completed this afternoon.
Babson eased by Springfield in doubles play as the Beavers earned 6-0 shutout victories at No. 1 and No. 3.
Tatsuya Kimoto (Yamaguchi, Japan) and
Waseem Sablon (Stoughton, Mass.) fought at No. 2, but ultimately fell to Sebastian Mendoza and Brady Anderson, 6-2.
In singles, Kimoto came from a set down to defeat Ole Lepsoe, 4-6, 6-1, 10-5 at No. 1 to highlight the afternoon for the Pride. The other point came from
Ethan Gomulka (San Bernardino, Calif.) at No. 5 as he won by retirement.
In the other four singles contests, Babson dropped just four total games to finish off the 5-2 win.
