Springfield, Mass. – April 19, 2025 – The Springfield College women's tennis team fell to No. 14 ranked Babson College, 7-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday afternoon on the Appleton Tennis Courts. This marked Springfield's third straight match against a nationally-ranked opponent.
Babson improved to 10-4 overall and to 4-2 in NEWMAC play, while Springfield dropped to 8-6, 3-3.
Babson took all three singles matches by 6-1 final scores as
Ramida Manataweewat (Bangkok, Thailand) and
Kapom Vettayawaikoon (Phuket, Thailand) played at No. 1,
Alysa Elliott (Gros-Islet, Saint Lucia) and
Gabby Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass.) played at No. 2 and
Kelly McGoldrick (Monroe, N.Y.) and
Natalia Peyon (Hong Kong) played at No. 3.
Babson went on to win all six singles matches in straight sets as the Pride faced some of the best competition in the country. Manataweewat played a tight opening set with Chaniel Soffer but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-0. At No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 Babson dropped just one game apiece, while Peyon fell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 to complete the match.
Springfield will host Smith College on Tuesday with seeding on the line for the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament at 4:00 pm.
