Williamsport, Pa. – January 9, 2026 – For the second consecutive season, the Springfield College wrestling team went 3-0 on day one of the Budd Whitehill National Duals highlighted by a victory over 12th ranked Washington & Lee to advance to tomorrow's championship bracket.

Springfield topped MSOE, 30-18, York College (PA), 29-14, and nationally-ranked Washington & Lee, 26-21. This was Springfield's first-ever meeting with Washington & Lee and the first duals with MSOE since 2024 and York since 1998. All-time at the Budd Whitehill National Duals, Springfield has produced four runner-up finishes, two fourth place finishes and 17 top-eight placements with tomorrow guaranteeing another top-four finish for the Pride.

Jacob Deguire (Schenectady, N.Y.) made an emphatic return to the lineup pinning all three of his opponents today all under 90 seconds. Myles Leonard (Waldwick, N.J.) also earned three pins on the day all coming under 60 seconds. Ty Stewart (Dracut, Mass.) also went 3-0 this afternoon for the Pride.

Springfield and MSOE were tied at 15 through six bouts this morning as Stewart earned a pin to lead the charge for the Pride midway through the dual. Isaac Quiles (East Hartford, Conn.) defeated Liam Anderson by a major decision, 15-3, at 141, while Esuar Ordonez (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) rolled past Connor McDonald by technical fall, 23-6, at 133 to account for Springfield's 15 points. The Pride then received back-to-back pins from Deguire in his return to the lineup at 174 as he dropped Toren Vanderbush in 55 seconds, while Leonard needed just 23 seconds to pin Jackson Hughes at 184 for a 27-18 advantage. The two squads traded decisions at 197 and 285 to account for the 30-18 final. Vanderbush for MSOE came into the match ranked 13th nationally at 174 pounds.

Springfield went down 6-0 early against York, but a pair of major decisions at 141 from Ryan Kozdra (Mahwah, N.J.), who topped Jacob Grzybek, 13-0, and at 149 from Stewart, who blanked David Vacca, put the Pride ahead 8-6. York got four points back to 157, however the trio of Gabe Thomasson, Deguire and Leonard secured the dual for the Pride. Thomasson earned a 17-1 technical fall at 165, Deguire pinned Mark Forry in 22 seconds at 174 and Leonard pinned Jack Wendel in 33 seconds at 184. Ben Katz (Medford, N.Y.)wrapped up the 29-14 win for Springfield with a 10-2 major decision over David Pierson.

Springfield trailed 17-9 through six bouts with Washington & Lee, but back-to-back pins from Deguire and Leonard pushed the Pride ahead 21-17. Nick Rogers (Watertown, N.Y.) then earned a 17-2 technical fall at 197 over Maxx Miller to secure the dual for the Pride pushing Springfield into the championship bracket for the second consecutive season.

Springfield will take on No. 16 Stevens or No. 24 Ohio Northern tomorrow morning at 10:30 am in the semifinal round.
