MIT Defeats Men’s Soccer

Springfield, Mass. - October 3, 2026 - The Springfield College men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to MIT on Saturday afternoon at the Irv Schmid Sports Complex.


Springfield falls to 2-7-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the conference while MIT imporves  to 2-3-3 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play. 


MIT opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Shikhar Motupally found the back of the net off an assist from Dilin Meloni. The Engineers added another goal just before halftime, as Eric Lohse scored in the 43rd minute with assists from Motupally and Charles Lai to take a 2-0 lead into the break.


The Engineers added an insurance goal in the 84th minute when Raphael Eccher scored to make it a 3-0 contest. Springfield generated several scoring opportunities throughout the contest but could not get one to go. 


Tommy Fenton (East Hampton, Conn.) made six saves in goal for Springfield, while Santos-Shin recorded five saves to preserve the shutout for MIT. Springfield finished the afternoon with 15 shots, including five on target, while MIT registered 18 shots and nine on goal as the Engineers held a 10-2 edge in corner kicks. 


Springfield will host Hartford on Tuesday for a 6:00 pm matchup.
