Parker Takes Runner Up Honors at 197 to Highlight Wrestling's Efforts at NEWA Futures

New London, Conn. – February 15, 2026 – The Springfield College wrestling team had four student-athletes place at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Futures Tournament on Sunday afternoon at the Coast Guard Academy. As a team, Springfield placed fifth overall with 80 points.

Coast Guard took the team title with 195.5 points and was followed by JWU (139.5), Castleton (133), and Roger Williams (94.5).

Oliver Parker (Pawtucket, RI) took home runner-up accolades at 197 as the top seed in the bracket. Parker used a pin and two straight decisions to reach the championship bout, but was clipped 2-1 in the final by second-seeded Brendan Raley of Coast Guard.

Matthew Hoxie (Nassau, N.Y.) finished in third place at 184 as the fourth seed in the bracket. Hoxie pinned his first opponent in the round of 16 before using a major decision to reach the semifinal round. Hoxie took on top-seeded Chase Mayes from Coast Guard, but fell by deisicion, 9-8, dropping him into the third place bout where he eased by second-seeded Barron Ranson of JWU by technical fall, 22-6.

Alex Oberc (New Milford, Conn.) was seeded fourth at 133 and held his seed finishing fourth in the bracket. Oberc posted a major decision in the round of 16 and a 9-6 decision in the quarterfinals before falling into the third place match via technical fall to top-seeded Aidan Shufelt of Castleton and by pin to Matteo Eagleson of Roger Williams in the final match of the afternoon.

Tyler Boelhower (Woodbridge, N.J.) also reached the third place match as the fifth-seeded student-athlete in the 174 pound category. Boelhower pinned his first opponent in the round of 16 in just 31 seconds before knocking off the four seed via 16-1 technical fall. He was clipped 9-2 by decision in the semifinal match to drop into the third place match. Boelhower faced second-seeded Ben Ronca of Wesleyan and fell by technical fall, 20-4, to take fourth place.

Springfield will now gear up for the NCAA Regional Championships which will take place in two weekends back at the Coast Guard Academy.
