New London, Conn. – February 28, 2026 – The Springfield College wrestling team saw five student-athletes advance to the semifinals of their respective weight classes on day one of the 2026 NCAA Division III Region I Championships at Coast Guard. As a team, Springfield is in first place with 104.5 points.
In addition to having five reach the semifinal round, the Pride also had four others reach the quarterfinal round of the wrestlebacks with those four needing three wins to reach the NCAA championships in March. Springfield is one of just three teams in the region that will have nine student-athletes competing tomorrow looking for NCAA bids.
Both Williams, which is second in the standings, and Castleton, which is third in the team standings will have nine left to compete tomorrow morning in Connecticut.
Springfield had five wrestlers go undefeated today. As the third seed at 133,
Esuar Ordonez (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) went 3-0 with a pin to reach the semifinal round. Ordonez earned a technical fall over Stone Farnsworth of Castleton before pinning Hayden Durocher of Plymouth State in 2:18 to reach the quarterfinal. In the round of eight, Ordonez knocked off sixth seeded Ethan Buonaducci of Bridgewater State, 15-4, by major decision. He will take second-seeded Marvin Armistead of Coast Guard in the semifinal tomorrow.
Isaac Quiles (East Hartford, Conn.), made his regional debut at the fifth seed at 141 and earned back-to-back pins over Shaun McLaughlin of Roger Williams and fourth-seeded Nicolas Balella of Castleton to reach the semifinal where he will see top-seeded Hayden Myers of Wesleyan tomorrow morning.
The top seed at 184,
Myles Leonard (Waldwick, N.J.) used pins over Nuallan King of Utica and eighth-seeded Roman Martinez of Wesleyan to reach the semifinal where he will see fifth-seeded Desmond McLaughlin of Castleton tomorrow.
Nick Rogers (Watertown, N.Y.), the second seed at 197 pinned Eric Power of Roger Williams and then took down Christian Curley of Bridgewater State, 5-1, by decision. He will face third-seeded Zach Borzio of Williams in the semifinal tomorrow.
Finally,
Ben Katz (Medford, N.Y.), the third seed at 285 used a second period pin of Michael Moussa of Plymouth State and a 12-3 major decision of Brandon Lavasta, the sixth-seed, to reach the semifinal where he will see second-seeded Adolfo Bentancur of Johnson & Wales tomorrow.
Four others will need three wins tomorrow to reach the NCAA championships after falling in one of their matches this afternoon.
At 149,
Ty Stewart (Dracut, Mass.) fell to fourth-seeded Matt Castillo of Roger Williams in his first match, but fought through the wrestleback and three straight wins to stay alive. Stewart pinned both Sean Aldrich of Utica and Gabriel Berger of Plymouth State before edging Gavin Ripley, 7-5, by decision. He will face seventh-seeded Shane Moore of Southern Maine tomorrow.
At 157, eighth-seeded
Ryan Kozdra (Mahwah, N.J.) opened his meet with a pin of Will Hunt of Rhode Island but fell in the quarterfinal to top-seeded Peter Kane of Williams by decision, 7-3. He went on to defeat third-seeded Ronnie Christolin of Wesleyan by decision, 3-0, and will face fifth-seeded Matthew Rodriguez of Western New England tomorrow.
At 165, eighth-seeded
Gabriel Thomasson (Norton, Mass.) started his day 2-0 with wins over Joey Baisley of WPI and a 17-2 technical fall of Scott Lallas of Rhode Island College. He was then pinned by top-seeded Henry Forte of Williams late in the third. He came back for a 19-3 technical fall over Jonathan Neypes of Norwich and will take on seventh-seeded Chase Anestis of Plymouth State tomorrow.
At 174, top-seeded
Jacob Deguire (Schenectady, N.Y.) began his day with two pins of Akiva Lind of Wesleyan and James Calabrese of Bridgewater State. Then in the quarterfinal round, Deguire was upset by eighth-seeded Patrick Wisniewski of JWU, 7-3, by decision. He came back with a pin of William Meeker of Trinity and will take on fourth-seeded Mason Gourley of Coast Guard tomorrow.
At 125,
Jack Callahan (Tewksbury, Mass.) was eliminated from contention despite pinning his first two opponents. Callahan, the fourth seed, took down TJ Monahan of Utica and Ethan Titus of Western New England before being upset by fifth-seeded Charlie Pavis of WPI by major decision, 11-3. He then fell in the wrestleback by decision, 3-2, to Domenic Sousa of Rhode Island College.
Action tomorrow begins at 10:00 am from Coast Guard.
