Wrestling Knocks Off No.10 Castleton, No. 14 JWU and Brockport in Saturday Quad

Castleton, Vt. - February 7, 2026 - The No. 20 ranked Springfield College wrestling team took down No. 10 nationally-ranked Castleton University, 21-16, No. 14 Johnson & Wales University, 23-20, and Brockport, 34-11, on Saturday afternoon in a quad meet in Vermont.

Springfield defeated Castleton for the first since the 2017-18 season off a pin from Ben Katz (Medford, N.Y.) in the final bout after the Pride came from behind to down Johnson & Wales for the first time since the 2012-13 season. Springfield's dual meet record now sits at 14-1 and the Pride are 4-1 against ranked teams this season. In fact, three of Springfield's four ranked wins have been against top-15 teams in Castleton (10), Johnson & Wales (14) and Washington & Lee (12).

Johnson & Wales held a 14-8 lead after six bouts in the first of three duals this afternoon in Vermont. Jacob Deguire (Schenectady, N.Y.) and Myles Leonard (Waldwick, N.J.) continued their pinning spree and put both Patrick Wisnieski and Barron Ranson on their backs in just under a combined three and a half minutes on the mat pushing the Pride ahead 20-14. Nick Rogers (Watertown, N.Y.) then took down Anthony Fernandez by decision, 10-3, at 197 to secure the dual for Springfield. Esuar Ordonez (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) and Isaac Quiles (East Hartford, Conn.) also picked up a combined six points for Springfield with back-to-back decisions at 133 and 141 at the beginning of the dual.

Springfield used a trio of sudden victory matches and a match-clinching pin to defeat Castleton, 21-16, for the first time in program history. Ordonez and Quiles earned sudden victories at 133 and 141 over Stone Farnsworth and Jack Voute to take a 6-4 lead. Castleton then took a 13-6 lead following three straight decisions at 149, 157 and 165. Deguire then pinned Joseph Baker in 1:27 at 174 to pull the Pride within one at 13-12 and Leonard won by sudden victory to put Springfield ahead 15-13. Castleton got three points back at 197 by decision and the match came down to Katz, who earned a pin over Logan Frank giving Springfield the thrilling 21-16 victory.

The Pride dominated Brockport 34-11  winning all but two of their ten matches including three wins coming from pins. Hunter Sanchez (Lebanon, Conn.) led off with a major decision win at 125 before Alex Oberc (New Milford, Conn.) took a 8-4 decision at 133 to take a 7-0 lead. Quiles then pinned Jaden Friel in 2:55 before Ty Stewart (Dracut, Mass.) won by a sudden victory at 149 to put Springfield up 16-0. Gabriel Thomasson (Norton, Mass.) then got a win by decision before Deguire and Leonard pinned their opponents in less than a minute combined, to lead 31-5. Oliver Parker (Pawtucket, R.I.) added three more points for Springfield at 197 to take the 34-11 win. Brockport added points with a technical fall at 157 and a pin in 4:18 at 197.

The Pride head to WPI on Saturday before competing at the NEWA Futures on Sunday, February 15.
