Springfield, Mass. - August 20, 2026 - Springfield College Executive Director of Athletics, Dr. Craig Poisson, is pleased to announce that Maura Tumelty G'26 has been named as the full-time assistant coach for the Springfield College field hockey program.
"Thank you to Coach Olsen and Dr. Poisson for this opportunity," said Tumelty. "I have loved being part of the Springfield College field hockey program and campus community, and I'm very excited to be back!"
Tumelty has served as a graduate assistant coach for the Pride for the past two seasons, helping Springfield produce a 13-7 overall record as the program appeared in the conference semifinal game and notched its most wins since 2017 during the 2025 season. She graduated from Springfield with a master's degree in sport science and will begin working toward her doctorate in exercise physiology at Springfield this fall.
"Maura's experience as a Division III field hockey student-athlete and her time as a graduate associate coach at Springfield College leave her well equipped to thrive in her new role under Coach Olsen's leadership," said Poisson. "I look forward to her contributions to our field hockey program."
Tumelty was part of the honors program at Cabrini University, earning a bachelor's degree in exercise science and health promotion with a minor in psychology in 2023. She was a four-year student-athlete on Cabrini's field hockey team, starting in every game she played in. Tumelty helped her team to back-to-back Atlantic East Conference titles and was named the Most Valuable Player of the championship during her senior year.
"I'm thrilled to elevate Maura to a full-time assistant coach," said head coach Mia Olsen. "She has shown through her time as a graduate assistant that she is committed to fostering a competitive field hockey environment while supporting the success and development of our student-athletes."
Tumelty was a two-time Atlantic East All-Conference First Team selection and was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad for four straight years. In 58 career games, the defender totaled four goals and four assists for 12 points.
Springfield is set to open up the 2026 season on September 2 at the University of Hartford at 5:00 pm.
