Springfield, Mass. – October 18, 2008 – The Springfield College men’s soccer team fell to the visiting Babson College Beavers, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest.
With the win, Babson improves to 11-4-1, 3-0-1 in league play, while the Pride drops to 5-7-2, 2-3 in their final regular season home game.
Babson tallied its first goal of the game at the 30:33 mark off a terrific effort from Chris Morris. Morris took the ball and ripped a shot from 25 yards out that found the upper corner of the net, as the visitors took a 1-0 advantage.
The Beavers added an insurance tally in the 65th minute on an unusual goal. Off a Tim Winn throw in, the ball deflected off Brendan McNamara’s back and past Springfield keeper Kevin Leahy (Cheshire, Conn.) who came out of his net, charging the ball.
The teams each finished with eight shots in the game, while the Pride held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Leahy finished with two saves, while Peter Crowley made three stop for Babson.
Springfield returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to take on Brandeis at 7 pm.
