Springfield, Mass. – October 22, 2008 – The Springfield College men’s swimming and diving season started the season off on a high note as it defeated visiting Holy Cross, 132-106, in the Art Linkletter Natatorium on Wednesday evening.
The Pride kicked off the night with a win in the 400 medley relay as Jerry Cummiskey, Ryan Mackstutis, Tony Bruno, and Scott Mackstutis in a time of 3:45.44.
Anthony Lambertson then picked up win for Springfield in the 1,000 free as he touched in 10:55.41. Matt Manoni touched first in the 200 free in 1:50.10, while Greg Pearsall captured the 50 free in 22.19.
Ryan Mackstutis picked up his second win of the night as he swam a 2:03.81 in the 200 IM, while Andrew Blakesley was impressive in the 100 free with a 48.47, winning by nearly three seconds.
Brian Way made an impact in his first collegiate meet with a first-place finish in the 500 free in 5:13.99.
In a pair of exhibitions, Mackstutis won his third event of the meet in the 200 breast with a 2:19.78, while the 400 free team of Pearsall, Cummiskey, Way, and Blakesley won in 3:21.08.
On the boards, Brian Sobel swept the competition as he scored a 266.09 on the 1-meter and a 259.13 on the three-meter.
The Pride will return on action on Nov. 1 when it takes on Southern Connecticut and Central Connecticut in New Britain, Conn.
