Men's Swimming and Diving Handles Babson, 154-117

Springfield, Mass. – January 31, 2009 – The Springfield College men’s swimming and diving team picked up a 154-117 victory over NEWMAC-foe Babson on Saturday afternoon in the Art Linkletter Natatorium.

Springfield had three swimmers on the day win multiple events as it posted an impressive showing. Tony Bruno was victorious in the 100 backstroke (58.28) and the 100 freestyle (49.98), while John MacDonald picked up wins in the 200 breaststroke (2:31.16) and the 200 fly (2:09.16). Ryan Mackstutis also had a pair of individual wins in the 500 free (5:02.36) and the 200 free (1:50.90).

Other winners on the day for the Pride included Andrew Blakesley in the 50 free (22.44), Sean Pennington in the 100 breast (1:08.44),and Brian Way in the 1,000 free (10:38.36).

SC’s 200 medley relay of Mackstutis, Blakesley, Bruno, and Greg Pearsall touched first in 1:38.77.

In the diving events, Brian Sobel took first on both boards with a 319.05 on the one-meter and a 285.85 on the three-meter.

Springfield returns to action next Saturday when it hosts Amherst at 1:00 pm.
