Babson Park, Mass. – November 6, 2010 – Senior captain Sarah Fredlund scored the game-winning goal with 20:52 left in regulation to power the top-seeded Babson College Beavers to a thrilling 1-0 victory over fifth-seeded Springfield College in the semifinals of the 2010 New England WomenÂ's and MenÂ's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Hockey Tournament at BabsonÂ's MacDowell Field on Saturday.
 With the victory, Babson advances to SundayÂ's championship game at 12:30 p.m. versus either second-seeded MIT or third-seeded Wheaton College. The Engineers and Lyons meet in SaturdayÂ's second semifinal game at 3 p.m. Meanwhile, Springfield sees its season come to a close with a record of 9-11.
 The Pride held a 7-4 shot advantage in the first half, but neither team was able to put the ball in the cage in the first 35 minutes of play. BabsonÂ's best opportunity of the half came in the first two minutes when first-year Morgan Lockwood shot the ball around Springfield junior goalkeeper Alison McCarthy. However, first-year MaryKate Murray swept the ball away from the goal line for a clutch defensive save for the Pride.
 Babson scored the lone goal of the game at 49:08 when junior defender Kristen Steigerwald carried the ball up the right side of the field and sent it into the circle. Fredlund then one-timed a shot from the stroke mark into the middle of the cage for her 16th goal of the season.
 Springfield nearly tied the game with a flurry in the 67th minute. Junior Alexa Carlson fired a shot toward the left side of the cage, but Babson junior keeper Jess Pashos made a sprawling save to her right at the 66:46 mark. Junior Kaila Dee then picked up the rebound but her bid went just wide of the right post.
 The Beavers were able to keep Springfield off the board the final three minutes to earn the 1-0 win and a spot in SundayÂ's championship game. McCarthy finished with five saves on the day for Springfield, including four in the second half, while Pashos finished the day with six stops in earning her second shutout of the season.
