Men's Lacrosse Rolls Past MIT, 16-4

Cambridge, Mass. – April 10, 2010 – The Springfield College men’s lacrosse team continued to roll through conference play on Saturday afternoon as it toppled MIT, 16-4, in Pilgrim League action. The win, Springfield’s third-straight, was highlighted by Kyle Gable’s four-goal, one-assist performance.

The win boosts Springfield’s record to 5-4, 3-0 in league action, while the Engineers drop to 3-5, 0-2.

Gable opened up the scoring at the 12:40 mark of the opening quarter as he finished a feed from Mike Delia. However, Carl Tilbury answered back for the hosts with a man-up strike from Corey Garvey to even to game at one goal apiece with 7:13 left in the first.

The Pride responded with scoring the game’s next 11 goals over a 30:03 span, which was jump started by Delia’s first goal of the season at the 2:06 mark of the first. Seven different players scored in the 11-goal spurt for Springfield as it opened up a 12-1 lead and never looked back.

Gable led the team with a game-high four goals and a game-high five points. Joe Heney, Joe Macchi, and Harry Bernstein all scored two goals and added an assist in the victory. Mark Eaton won 12-of-21 face-offs and picked up a team-best five ground balls. Between the pipes, Marc Martinez allowed one goal and made a pair of saves to earn the win in just 30 minutes of action.

Garvey led the Engineer attack with a goal and three assists in the loss. Justin Myers scooped up a game-high nine ground balls while going 10-of-22 in the EngineersÂ' face-offs. Christopher Rullan compiled 10 saves, five groundballs, and two caused turnovers as Tomas Vianna added a pair of caused turnovers and ground balls.

The Pride will resume action on Wednesday evening as it looks to top local-rival Amherst College. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
