Men's Swimming & Diving Falls Twice to Hartwick, Union

Springfield, Mass. – January 8, 2011 – The Springfield College menÂ's swimming and diving team was swept in a dual meet with Hartwick College and Union College this afternoon at SC’s Art Linkletter Natatorium. Hartwick outscored the Pride 144-99, while the Pride fell to Union by a score of 143.5-99.5.

Scott Mackstutis led the scoring for Springfield, tying for first in the 100-yard freestyle. Mackstutis and Kevin Jung from Union both finished with a time of 49.27 to earn points for their respective teams.

Others that swam well for Springfield included Tim Ramos, who finished second in the 200-yard butterly in 2:04.62, and Josh Ernst, who finished third in the 200-yard free in 1:48.99.

The Pride men finished the meet on a high note, winning the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Ernst, Mike Demellia, Jason Scotto, and Mackstutis combined for a time of 3:19.03.

In diving, SC’s Brian Sobel was victorious in both the one- and three-meter events. Sobel took the three-meter with a score of 326.75, and then won the one-meter with a score of 308.70 to complete the sweep.

The Pride will host NYU next Saturday (Jan. 15) at 1:00 pm.
