Men's Swimming and Diving Falls To Amherst, 161-128

Springfield, Mass. – February 5, 2011 –The Springfield College menÂ's swimming and diving team fell to Amherst College this afternoon. The visiting Lord Jeffs outpaced the Pride 161-128 at Art Linkletter Natatorium.

Nolan Manley swam well for Springfield in the 50 yard freestyle, placing second with a time of 0:22.83. In the 500 yard freestyle, John MacDonald touched the wall in 5:18.28. Benjamin Ernst followed that up with a 0:57.08 finish in the 100 yard butterfly, and Sean Pennington clocked in at 0:59.81 in the 100 yard IM.

In diving, Brian Sobel and Brooks Farrar dominated the competition, exchanging first and second place finishes. In the three-meter, Farrar edged his teammate for the win with a score of 342.37. In the one-meter event, Sobel returned the favor, besting Farrar with a score of 336.45.

The men will be in Cambridge, Mass. from February 25-27 for the menÂ's NEWMAC Championships.
