Springfield, Mass. — September 28, 2011 — Emily Pavlini scored one goal and added one assist to lead her Williams College field hockey team to a 3-0 victory over Springfield College on a pleasant evening at SC’s Stagg Field.
With the win, Williams is 4-3, while Springfield falls to 0-7.
The Ephs scored all three goals in the first half. Pavlini, a sophomore midfielder from Far Hills, N.J., tallied the game’s first goal at 8:11 into the contest. She was assisted by senior forward Margie Fulton (Wellesley, Mass.).
The second goal was produced by freshman forward Caitlin Conlon (Sudbury, Mass.) at the 23:39 mark. She was assisted by Pavlini.
Before the half was complete, Fulton scored the game’s final goal at 34:14. It was unassisted.
Williams had the benefit of the remaining statistics. The Ephs outshot the Pride, 18-4. In terms of shots on goal, it was Williams 8, SC 0. In penalty corners, it was Williams 14, Springfield 7. The Pride did manage six penalty corners in the second half, same as the Ephs.
For SC, freshman goalkeeper Tory Sowizral (Harvard, Mass.) was credited with five saves. For Williams, sophomore Ariana Spillotes (Bethesda, Md.) was not forced to make a stop.
Up next, SC will play a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference match-up at Wellesley Saturday (Oct. 1) at 12 noon.
