Springfield, Mass. — January 21, 2012 — The 200 freestyle relay proved to be winners, but the Springfield College men’s swimming & diving team fell short to Williams College, 202-95, this afternoon in competition at SC’s Art Linkletter Natatorium.
Junior diver Kenny Pancoast (Monroe, Conn.) proved to be the only other winner in the 3-meter diving event for the Pride with a score of 268.43 points.
SC is now 3-7 overall on the season.
Pancoast also placed second in the 1-meter diving with 248.40 points, about five points shy of winner Rohan Bhatt of Williams.
The 200 free relay team for SC included sophomore Josh Frey (East Hartford, Conn.), freshman Trevor Ferraro (Southbury, Conn.), sophomore Tim Crampton (Litchfield, Conn.), and freshman Phillip Murphy (Holyoke, Mass.). Their winning time was 1:30.61.
In other finishes for SC, the 200-yard medley relay placed fourth in 1:41.85. That quartet included senior Josh Ernst (West Springfield, Mass.), sophomore Eric Scala (Fords, N.J.), sophomore Benjamin Ernst (West Springfield, Mass.), and freshman Hayden Cassidy (Ada, Mich.).
In the 1000-yard free, Murphy placed third with a time of 10:27.01, while junior Tim Ramos (Chicopee, Mass.) was right behind in fourth with a time of 10:55.09. In the 200-yard free, junior Nolan Manley (Monson, Mass.) took a third in 1:48.09, and in the 100-back, Josh Ernst finished second in 55.45 seconds..
In the 100-yard breaststroke, freshman Brad Mills placed third in 1:04.31, and in the 200 fly, it was Benjamin Ernst taking fourth in 2:05.63.
Next Saturday, Jan. 28, the Pride travel to Babson Park to take on the Babson Beavers.
