Williamstown, Mass. – September 26, 2012 -The Springfield College field hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision at Williams College on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference clash. Timarie Villa was responsible for 12 saves on the evening.
Williams improved to 5-2 with the victory, while the Pride evened its record at 4-4.
The host Ephs were aggressive throughout the first half, getting off 13 shots against Springfield. Consecutive strong scoring attempts led to a goal by Williams’ Emily Pavlini off an assist by Casey Greene at 23:26. The Ephs added another goal, this time an unassisted strike by senior Katie Pettengill with 9:38 left in the half.
Springfield worked hard to match the Ephs in aggression on offense, challenging Williams goalie Ariana Spiliotes. Spiliotes led the Williams defense from the cage, stopping sox Springfield shots in the first half.
The Eph defense came out strong in the second half, keeping the ball away from their side of the field. This strong play extended to the offense leading to two more goals by the Ephs. Sophomore Cary Hairfield scored, unassisted, at 29:22. Haley Ladd-Luthringshauser tallied the final goal for Williams off an assist by Caitlin Conlon at 13:07.
For the game, Williams held a 23-7 edge in shots and a 10-6 cushion in penalty corners.
The Pride will now prepare for an important conference game at Babson beginning at 12:00 pm.
