Springfield, Mass. Â October 30, 2013 Â The Springfield College field hockey team scored twice in the first half, but the Pride fell to visiting Salem State, 3-2 on Wednesday night at Stagg Field.
The Vikings improve to 8-8 on the season with the win while the Pride fall to 6-10.
Salem State clinched the victory with a goal by Taylor Nawn (Auburn, Mass.) with just over eight minutes remaining in regulation. Kathleen Clark (Southboro, Mass.) took the corner and Nawn controlled ball before blasting a shot past SpringfieldÂ's Juliana Barrasso (Bayport, N.Y.).
The Pride scored first, tallying goals in the 19th and 31st minutes to go up 2-0 in the first half. Linnea Quist (New Preston, Conn.) netted Springfield's first goal, converting on a pass from Tori Stollmer (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.). Libby Hart (Chatham, Mass.) scored next off a feed by Sarah Ducharme (Dudley, Mass.) to put the Pride up by a pair of goals.
The Vikings struck back in the second half, scoring back-to-back goals in the 41st and 47th minutes. Kelsey Russell (Arlington, Mass.) found Lauren Pazdziorny (Middletown, Mass.) on the backside post for the VikingÂ's first goal of the game. Just over six minutes later, Pazdziorny found Katie Pietrini (Beverly, Mass.) for a strike from ten yards out.
Springfield had the edge in corners, 10-2 and shots, 18-6. Barrasso had three saves in goal for Springfield. Michaela Boyer (South Hadley, Mass.) made sixteen saves for Salem State.
Springfield will close out the regular season on Saturday, traveling to WPI for a noon start. Salem State will travel to Framingham State on Saturday for its final regular season game at 11:00 a.m.
