Nazareth Clips No. 14 Men's Lacrosse, 15-13

Springfield, Mass. – February 22, 2013Ryon Lynch produced a game-high seven points, however the visiting Nazareth College men’s lacrosse team scored a pair of goal 1:16 apart in the final 3:58 to clip Springfield College, 15-13, on Stagg Field Friday afternoon.

Wth the result, Nazareth evens its record to 1-1, while the Pride, who was ranked 14th in the nation in this week’s USILA national poll, is now 1-1.

Beside’s Lynch’s seven points, Ryan Murphy added three goals and two helpers, while Dylan Sheehan recorded two goals and an assist. Kevin Sainte found the back of the net twice, and Sean Doolady picked up six ground balls. In goal, Robert Maher posted 11 saves.

The visiting Golden Flyers had three players register hat tricks, with Brian Wright, Luke Wooters, and Trevar Haefele all scoring three times. Drew Simoneau won 18-of-31 draws to go along with a game-high 11 ground balls. Scott Brown was especially strong in goal, tallying 14 saves.

Lynch gave the Pride a 3-2 lead with 1:36 left in the first quarter, only to have Nazareth string together three-straight strikes to earn a 5-3 lead with 6:28 to go in the first half. The scoring picked up in the final minutes, as a man-up marker from Lynch at 2:32 was answered by Chris Aycock’s unassisted goal 15 ticks later.

Murphy provided plenty of late-half heroics for the hosts, tallying goals with 32 seconds and five seconds on the clock to head into the half even at six.

Jason Boike got free after a great individual effort to put the visitors back on top 5:46 into the second half. However, Springfield put forth its best push of the afternoon, netting four consecutive strikes to open up its largest lead of the game, 10-7, with 2:11 to go in the third. Bryce Cerriello had a goal and an assist in the spurt for the Pride.

Nazareth responded its strong fashion, with four unanswered of their own to regain an 11-10 lead on a Wooters unassisted strike with 9:42 to go. The teams would go-back-and forth, each trading goals until Dom Roberto finished a Lynch feed in transition to tie the game for the last time at the 5:06 mark.

Nick Loscalzo’s rip from 10 yards out with 3:58 proved to be the game winner, and Wooters added an insurance goal 1:16 later to seal the win.

Springfield will play next Saturday in a rematch of last year’s NCAA Championship first round game as it hosts 7th-ranked Stevens at 1:00 pm.
