Men's Lacrosse Earns USILA Academic Team Award; 12 Named To NEILA All-Academic Team

Springfield, Mass. - August 19, 2026 - The Springfield College men's lacrosse team has earned academic honors from both the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) and the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) for their hard work in the classroom this year.

The USILA has named 150 schools across Division I, II and III as USILA Academic Team Award recipients for the 2025-26 academic year. To qualify for the honor, teams must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year. Springfield was one of six from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) to earn the honor.

The Pride also saw 12 student-athletes earn 2026 NEILA All-Academic honors after strong careers both in the classroom and on the field.

Members of the NEILA All-Academic Team are nominated by head coaches across Division I, II and III and are made up of student-athletes who have excelled both in the classroom and on the field over the course of their men's lacrosse collegiate career. Nominees must have senior or graduate student standing with no eligibility remaining or plans to use their eligibility in New England, a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale and be an impact player for their team.

Springfield's honorees include Vincent Cappelli (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), Gabe Carrero (Meriden, Conn.), Ian Cote (Lake Stevens, Wash.), Jonathan Guida (Wakefield, Mass.), Anders Norman (Truckee, Calif.), Dominic Pellegrino (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), Joseph Sabella (Mount Sinai, N.Y.), Nick Savastano (South Salem, N.Y.), Brady Soldo (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Matt Webb (Northport, N.Y.), Chuck Weitzel (Newton, Mass.) and Reece Whitney (Chester, Conn.)

The Pride capped off its 2026 season with an overall record of 10-6 and a mark of 6-1 in NEWMAC play. Under the direction of first year head coach Sean Quirk, Springfield secured the second seed in the NEWMAC Championship Tournament and reached the semifinal round.
