Springfield, Mass. — September 25, 2026 — Springfield College Executive Director of Athletics, Dr. Craig Poisson, is pleased to announce that Sam Scoba has been named as the full-time assistant coach for the Springfield College men's lacrosse program.
"Sam brings a myriad of men's lacrosse coaching experience to Springfield College to go along with his NCAA Division III playing experience," said Poisson. "I look forward to his impact as Coach Quirk's offensive minded assistant coach."
Scoba joins Springfield College following coaching stops at Young Harris College, Saint Leo and Oberlin.
At Young Harris in Georgia, Scoba has been the Associate Head Coach for the men's lacrosse program since May of 2023 and took the lead on all recruiting efforts. During the 2024 season he helped the Mountain Lions double the amount of wins the program had the previous season and in 2025 helped four student-athletes earn Conference Carolinas All-Conference honors. He also coached three different student-athletes who cemented themselves in the record books, becoming all-time leaders in various categories. One student-athlete now leads the Young Harris men's lacrosse program in points and assists, another leads in caused turnovers and caused turnovers per game and a goalkeeper now leads in career saves, saves per game and minutes played for a goaltender.
"We are excited to welcome Sam Scoba to Springfield College and the men's lacrosse program as our full-time assistant. Sam's experience in college coaching and developing young men on and off the field is vast," said head coach Sean Quirk. "Sam has a lineage of family members that have been part of the men's and women's lacrosse programs at Springfield. Sam embodies our culture and we look forward to him having a big impact in all we do on Alden Street!"
Scoba was a member of the men's lacrosse teams at Dean College and Endicott College before he earned a bachelor's degree in entrepreneurship from Endicott. Scoba was a member of the 2015 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship team with the Gulls and he also was named to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) All-Academic team and received the Commonwealth Academic award.
Outside of the collegiate lacrosse space, Scoba has coached lacrosse with Xcelerate Lacrosse, Team 91 Georgia, Franklin Youth Boy's Lacrosse and Westborough High School Boy's Lacrosse.
"I'm incredibly excited to join Springfield College and return home to Massachusetts," said Scoba. "The college's mission of developing the whole person in spirit, mind, and body really resonates with me. I'm also extremely excited to be part of the tradition of Springfield College men's lacrosse. I'm grateful for the opportunity to work with Coach Sean Quirk and his staff, and I look forward to helping our student-athletes grow and continuing to build on the success of the program."
