Softball Falls To Utica, Blanks Augsburg In Opening Day of Rebel Games

Kissimmee, Fla. – March 17, 2013 – The Springfield College dropped its opener to Utica, 3-1, before rebounding with a 9-0 victory over Augsburg in the first day of its Spring Break trip at the Rebel Games on Sunday.

In the win over Augsburg, Jen Joseph tossed a complete-game shutout as she scattered four hits while striking out five and walking just two. Jenna Webb had a great performance at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two runs scored, while Breann Joyce totaled three hits and a pair of RBI. Both Johanna Burke and Elizabeth Joseph had two runs batted in as well.

The Pride racked up 16 hits in the contest and raced out to a 4-0 lead through three innings. A run in the fourth and two runs in both the sixth and seventh sealed the 9-0 win.

Against Utica, starter Ashley Marino struck out six but was charged with three earned runs on six hits as she shouldered the loss. The Pride managed just three hits in the contest, with Christina Leader, Kelly Blake, and Burke producing at the dish.

Despite scoring first in the third inning, the Pride surrendered two runs in the fourth and another in the seventh to fall, 3-1.
