Springfield, Mass. – July 13, 2026 - Recent Springfield College graduate
Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) of the softball program was named as a finalist for the 2026 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Female Student-Athlete of the Year Award.
An Awards Committee comprised of Athletic Communicators from across the conference reviews the nominees annually and selects the NEWMAC's honorees. The conference office will announce the 2025-2026 NEWMAC Student-Athlete of the Year recipient(s) on Thursday, July 30. The recipient(s) of the 2025-2026 award will become the NEWMAC's nominee(s) for the Division III Commissioners Association Student-Athlete of the Year award.
This year, the NEWMAC selected a total of 12 women from across the league as finalists for the Female Student-Athlete of the Year Award including Patricia Bandrup of Wheaton College women's soccer, Lilly Bedard of Babson College women's lacrosse, Matia Cristiani of Babson College women's tennis, Julia Decker of Salve Regina University field hockey, Yasmin Defne Dadikhi of Emerson College women's cross country,
Amelia DeRosa of Springfield College softball, Destiny Lum of WPI softball, Lyda Martin of Smith College women's cross country/track & field, Annika Naveen of MIT women's swimming & diving, Elle Rimando of Mount Holyoke women's track & field, Kate Sanderson of MIT women's cross country/track & field and Emily Brydges of Wellesley College women's cross country/track & field.
DeRosa, an English/secondary education major with a 3.87 grade point average, played and started in 41 games this season both in the field and in the circle for Springfield. As a pitcher, DeRosa went 17-5 with a 1.73 earned run average in 150.0 innings. The senior pitched 13 complete games including six shutouts and struck out a career-best 128 batters. At the plate, DeRosa batted .453 to go along with 63 hits, nine doubles, four triples, a home run, 42 RBI and scored 27 runs. She wraps up her career as the program's all-time career hits leader with 253 hits while also being third all-time in career runs scored, fourth all-time in career batting average with .422 and fifth all-time in career RBI with 120.
Off the diamond, DeRosa was honored with Academic All-District accolades from the College Sports Communicators (CSC) organization and was a three-time NEWMAC Academic All-Conference selection. She earned NEWMAC All-Conference and NFCA All-Region accolades four times during her time on Alden Street. She also took home All-America Second Team honors as a first-year in 2023. That same season, DeRosa was also tabbed as the NEWMAC's Rookie and Athlete of the Year becoming the fifth student-athlete in team sport league history to earn Athlete of the Year and Rookie of the Year accolades in the same season.
