Kissimmee, Fla. – March 18, 2013 – The Springfield College softball team was dropped a pair of close games in its second day of action in the Rebel Games on Monday. McDaniel edged the Pride, 6-4, before Utica clipped Springfield for the second-straight day by a score of 3-2.

The loss drops Springfield’s record to 1-3 this year.

In the 6-4 loss to McDaniel, the Pride fell behind 6-3 after three innings of play after Caisie Cadorette surrendered six earned runs off 10 hits. Jennifer Joseph came in for the final three innings, and did not surrender a hit as she posted three strike outs.

Breann Joyce had an RBI single in the game, and Kelly Blake and Ally Rivelli each produced two hits, including a double each.

The Pioneers got the best of Springfield for the second-straight day after picking up a 3-1 victory on Sunday. Joyce had two of the Pride’s five hits, while Johanna Burke and Webb each registered RBI in the loss. In the circle, Joseph was charged with her first loss of the season, giving up three earned runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking two.

Springfield jumped on the board in the first inning as Kelly Blake cracked a two-out single that was followed by a booming RBI double by Webb.

Utica got all three of its runs in the third on a two-out three-run homer by Courtney Fitzgerald. The Pride’s seventh-inning rally fell short, despite scoring a run with no outs. The Pioneers went to Cassidy Thompson, who induced three-straight outs to get the save and seal the win.

The Pride will look to get back on the winning track with games against Endicott and Rowan on Tuesday morning.
