Men's Swimming and Diving Toppled By Union and Hartwick

Springfield, Mass. – January 4, 2014 – The Springfield College men’s swimming & diving team had four first place finishes on Saturday despite falling to both Union and Hartwick.

Union topped the Pride by a score of 191-109 while Hartwick won 180-114.

Junior Jack Lewis (Durham, N.H.) highlighted the day for the Pride, sweeping both the the three-meter and one-meter boards. He tallied a winning score of 299 in the 3-meter and 292.35 in the 1-meter.

Senior Jason Scotto (Southbury, Conn.) won the 200 free with a time of 1:47.85. He also placed fifth in the 50 free with a time of 22.88.

Michael Normoyle (Springfield, Mass.) was the other winner for Springfield, taking the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.53.

Junior Hayden Cassidy (Ada, Mich.) was runner up in the 100 free with a time of 49.57. Classmate Brad Mills (Enfield, Conn.) took second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:22.43.

Pat Geraghty (Holyoke, Mass.) had two top three finishes, placing third in the 200 butterfly (2:02.74) and the 100 butterfly (55.59).

The men will compete again on Saturday, January 11, traveling to Middlebury for a 1:00 p.m. start.
