Springfield, Mass.- September 25, 2014- The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team opened up the 2014-2015 season with a 161-137 victory over host Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon.
Jack Lewis (Durham, N.H.) and Liam Barnes (Cheshire, Conn.) led the way for the Pride as they qualified for the NCAA Championships. Barnes posted a 287.26 on the three-meter, while Lewis, the reigning NEWMAC Diver of the Year, posted a 315.00 on the one-meter.
Daniel Fay (Yorktown, N.Y.) swam to first place finishes in both the 100-yard backstroke in 56.87 and the 200 yard backstroke (2:04.46), while Michael Normoyle (Springfield, Mass.) also placed first in two events, the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.49) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.68).
Senior Hayden Cassidy (Ada, Mich.) completed the 50-yard freestyle in 22.98 to take first, followed by freshman Jimmy Stinehart (Southwich, Mass.) (23.15), and junior Sammy Grudzien (Fiskdale, Mass.) (23.60).
Freshman Kent Parsons (Hamilton, Mass.) also scored first-place points for the Pride in the 500-yard freestyle (5:03.65).
Springfield will compete in a tri-meet at the University of Rhode Island on November 1st at 1:00 pm.
