Babson Park, Mass. - April 12, 2014 - The Springfield College men's tennis team battled host Babson on Saturday, but the Beavers came away with the 9-0 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) win.
Springfield's best chance at doubles came from Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, Mass.) and Joe Giannelli (Watertown, Conn.), who narrowly fell 9-8 (7-1). Josh Robinson (Southold, N.Y.) battled tough at No. 5 singles, ultimately falling to Babson's Dom Wysolmerski, 6-4, 6-4.
Giannelli put up a fight at third singles, falling to Babson's Ramone Doyley, 6-2, 6-3. DeVarennes fell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. At second singles, Justin Danielewicz (Portland, Conn.) fell by a score of 6-1, 6-0. Kyle Beynor (Prospect, Conn.) (6-2, 6-2) and Nate Weissman (Longmeadow, Mass.) (6-3, 6-1) fell at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
At second doubles, Beynor and Danielewicz fell by a score of 8-3 while Robinson and Weissman fell 8-1 at third doubles.
The Pride fall to 6-7 (0-5 NEWMAC) with the loss and will be back in action on Thursday, hosting UMass Dartmouth for a non-conference match at 4:00 p.m.
