Buzzards Bay, Mass. – April 14, 2012 – Senior Mike Delia netted a hat trick and an assist, while sophomore Ryon Lynch added a pair of goals and three assists to lead Springfield to a 17-3 Pilgrim Lacrosse League victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.
The visiting Pride (8-3, 3-0 Pilgrim), who received votes in this weekÂ's USILA Division III national poll, scored the first seven goals of the match and 10 of the 11 tallies in the opening 30 minutes of play en route to a 10-1 advantage at the break, as senior Shane Ferguson, sophomore Dom Roberto and freshman Kurtis Skelley each chipped with a pair of goals for the winners. Senior Mike Donoghue, junior Matt Basile, sophomore Tim Lockrow and freshman Dylan Sheehan added a marker and helper as well for Springfield.
Senior Jake Bickley netted a pair of goals in the setback for thehost Buccaneers (5-7, 0-3 Pilgrim), who also received a marker and helper from junior John Hojnoski.
Sophomore Rob Maher picked up the win in goal with one first-half save for Springfield, which also received a pair of second half stops from sophomore Kevin MacBride. Sophomore Paul Painten made 11 saves in 38 minutes of action in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received three stops over the final 22 minutes from freshman Eric Kuehn.
The Pride outshot the Buccaneers by a 46-14 margin in claiming their 30th straight Pilgrim League victory, as the visitors forced 27 turnovers and held a 13-10 edge in face offs.
Springfield hosts Clark in a Pilgrim Lacrosse League clash on Wednesday evening at Stagg Field beginning at 7:00 p.m.
