Box Score Norton, Mass. - May 2, 2015 - The Springfield College softball team dropped a 3-2 contest to MIT on Saturday morning at Wheaton College in day two of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament. The loss eliminated the Pride from the tournament and end its season at a 18-21 overall record.
MIT put the score at 2-0 early in the first, after scoring two unearned runs off a fielding error. Natalie Shifflet (Poway, Calif.) dribbled an infield single to start to the frame, followed by a base hit bunt from Jasmin Joseph (Woddland Hills, Calif.). With two on Amanda Lee (Saratoga, Calif.) reached first on a fielding error to load the bases for Tori Jensen (Holliston, Mass.). The Pride was able to collect two quick outs after a fielder's choice out at home and a line out to second base, but a costly fielding error allowed Lee and Joseph to cross the plate.
Jensen added what would be the go-ahead run in the bottom of the third with a solo shot over the left center fence.
Springfield rallied in the next inning with an RBI single from Melissa Nelson (Milford, Conn.). With two outs back–to-back singles from Tasha Polana (Orange, Mass.) and Camdyn Morgillo (West Haven, Conn.) would put two on for Nelson. The junior ripped her pitched through the left side of the infield allowing Polana to score from third, putting the score at 3-1.
Nelson would come through again for the Pride in the top of the sixth with another RBI single. After a single from Elizabeth Joseph (Stamford, Conn.) and a walk from Polana, Nelson found a gap through the right side of the infield to score pinch runner Simone Morin (Plantsville, Conn.) and push the score to 3-2.
The Pride collected three quick outs in the top of the seventh and put together a rally on the offensive end, but would come up just short.
