Box Score 2 Kissimmee, Fla. - March 14, 2016 - The Springfield College softball program picked up another walk-off victory over Lesley to begin the day, but fell to McDaniel in the second game to wrap up day two of the Rebel Spring Games hosted at the Osceola Softball Complex in Kissimmee, Fla.
With the split, the Pride now hold a record of 3-1 overall, and will take on Ramapo at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15, before following with Utica at 11:15 a.m.
Springfield 6, Lesley 5 - Game One
Senior Elizabeth Joseph (Stamford, Conn.) registered a career-high five RBI, including the walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead the Springfield College softball team to its third-consecutive win on Monday morning at the Osceola Softball Complex.
With the win, Springfield improves to 3-0 on the year, while Lesley falls to 0-3 on the year. Joseph went 2-for-4 at the plate on the day, including a three-run home run in the bottom of the second en route to her five RBI.
For the second consecutive day, junior Nicole Cring (Cooperstown, N.Y.) took the circle in the first game of the day, and pitched 5.0 strong innings, giving up five hits and three runs, while striking out one. Shelby Allen (Oakland, N.J.) came on in relief and pitched two innings, picked up the win, and struck out one.
For the Lynx, Alyson Nisbet (Clovis, Calif.) pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 12 hits and striking out three Springfield batters.
The Pride broke the silence in the bottom of the second inning, when Jordyn Moquin (Plantsville, Conn.) singled to right, before Sam Cox (Longmeadow, Mass.) reached on an error at second, leaving runners on first and second with no outs. Next up, Joseph jacked a three-run home run over the left field fence to give Springfield a 3-0 advantage.
In the bottom half of the ensuing inning, Springfield tacked on another run, when Joseph was at the plate with runners on first and third, and grounded out, but Jenna Webb (Harrison, N.Y.) was able to cross the plate to give the Pride a four-run lead.
Springfield would add another run to its lead in the bottom of the fourth, when Melissa Nelson (Milford, Conn.) hit a deep fly to right with the bases loaded, which was caught, but Emily Reynolds (Charlton, Mass.) tagged and snuck home to make it 5-0, Springfield.
The Lynx would respond in the top of the six with three runs of its own in the top of the fifth, followed by a pair more in the top of the sixth, evening the score at five apiece, setting up Joseph's late-game heroics.
Leading off the bottom of the seventh, Webb singled to center, before Rachel Ball (Coventry, R.I.) came in to pinch run, and was pushed to second by a bunt from Moquin. After an out, Joseph came to the plate and with a full-count, stung a ball past a diving first baseman, and beat out the force at first, allowing Ball to come around from second, giving the Pride the victory.
McDaniel 10, Springfield 5 -- Game Two
A five-run fifth inning for the McDaniel Green Terror proved to be the difference maker, as the Pride fell 10-5 in the second of two games on Monday morning.
Webb was a solid 2-for-3 from the plate, and picked up an RBI, while Nelson, Cox and Alicia Pavadore (Taunton, Mass.) all registering RBI as well. In the cirle, sophomore Talia Loda (East Haven, Conn.) took the loss as she pitched 4.0 innings, giving up eight hits and six earned runs, while also striking out four. Moquin came on in relief and pitched an inning, allowing two hits, while Allen also pitched a frame in the defeat.
For McDaniel, Valerie Lamb (Miami Gardens, Fla.) picked up her first win of the season, fanning three and giving up nine hits, while Alex Herschman (Laurel, Md.) picked up a six-out save, striking out two.
The Pride opened the game with a two-run top of the first inning, when Webb drove in Nelson from second base with a double, before Cox singled to right, scoring Webb, thus giving Springfield a 2-0 lead.
The Green Terror responded with three runs in the bottom of the third, before the Pride rallied for three more runs in the top of the fifth to take a 5-3 lead over McDaniel. In the frame, Kayla Padroff (Southington, Conn.) led off with a double, and eventually crossed the plate on a single from Loda, before Loda came around on a single from Nelson, followed by Navarro stealing home to make it 5-3, Springfield.
After the three-run frame for the Pride, the Green Terror responded with a five-run inning of its own to take an 8-5 lead, before it tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend its lead to five.
Springfield would cut its deficit to four when Joseph drove a ball to right that was dropped, allowing Webb to come in from second, but the Green Terror would get the final two outs, sealing the win.
