Babson 4, Springfield 0 -- Game One

The Springfield College softball program saw its six-game win streak come to a close with a 4-0 loss to Babson in the first of two in Saturday's NEWMAC doubleheader at Potter Field.

Sophomore Talia Loda (East Haven, Conn.) took the circle for the Pride, and was effective, pitching 6.1 innings, giving up seven hits, four runs while striking out five Babson batters. Her counterpart, Ali Reilly (New Cannaan, Conn.) was dominant in the circle for the Beavers, as she pitched a complete-game shut out, giving up just four hits while fanning six.

At the plate, Springfield's Elizabeth Joseph (Stamford, Conn.) extended her hit streak to six games, but the Pride was only able to muster up three additional hits in the setback, including base knocks from Sam Cox (Longmeadow, Mass.), Kayla Padroff (Southington, Conn.) and Melissa Nelson (Milford, Conn.).

It took until the top of the sixth to break the scoreless tie, but the Beavers struck when Annie Quine (Santa Monica, Calif.) stroked a double to center, plating Rachel Bullard (Worcester, Mass.), who reached on a single to start the Beavers' rally.

Babson would tack on three more runs in its next at bat, as Caitie Benoit (Williamstown, Mass.) and Josephine Mares (Houston, Texas) led off the frame with back-to-back singles, before a Madison Dinaso (Ardsley, N.Y.) dropped a sacrifice bunt down the third-base line to score Catherine Pitts (Winchester, Mass.), before a two-run double off the bat of Reilly scored Mares and Dinaso to make it 4-0, Babson.

Reilly would come out in the bottom of the seventh and pick up the final three outs to claim her 11th win of the season, and seal the 4-0 win for Babson.

Springfield 4, Babson 2 -- Game Two

Led by a pair of RBI from Webb and Drobiak, the Springfield College softball team picked up its 20th win of the season, defeating Babson 4-2 in the second leg of the NEWMAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Nicole Cring (Cooperstown, N.Y.) was impressive in the circle, as she improved to 7-2 on the year, pitching 6.0 innings, giving up just seven hits and two runs. Junior Jordyn Moquin (Plantsville, Conn.) came on to pick up the final three outs and her first save of the season to preserve the win.

Reilly took the circle in the second game as well, but only lasted 4.2 innings, giving up eight hits and four runs, while Dinaso came on to pitch 1.1 innings, striking out one.

At the plate, Joseph extended her hit streak to seven games, as she went 1-for-3 in the game, while the Pride also got production from Nelson, who was 1-for-1 with a pair of sacrifice bunts and a run scored.

Springfield got on the board in the top of the first inning when Carianna Gasdia (Wakefield, Mass.) laid down a bunt single to open the game, before being pushed to second on a sacrifice bunt from Nelson. Next up, Webb smoked a line drive down the left-field line to push Gasdia across the plate to make it 1-0, Pride.

After Babson evened the score in the bottom half of the frame, Springfield regained its one-run lead in the third when Drobiak dropped a single into right field, scoring Gasdia from second base to make it 2-1, after three innings.

Springfield would add two more in the bottom of the fifth, when Nelson drilled a two-out single up the middle, before Webb laced a ball off the left-field fence, allowing Nelson to score from first, before a single into right-center off the bat of Drobiak pushed Webb across the plate to make it 4-1, Pride, after five.

In the top of the sixth, Mares led off with a single, before Ashley Tango (Reading, Mass.) pushed her across the plate with a single to cut the Beavers deficit to a pair.
